An email attachment is a computer file sent along with an email message. You can attach one or more files to any email message and send it along to the recipient. Both images and documents can be sent electronically.
Usually very large files cannot be sent via email attachment. Simply because your email passes through several email transfer agent to go to the recipients. Each of these system store messages before forwarding to the second storage facility. Large attachments may succeed internally with a company but going globally it is difficult. And because of this reason they have to limit the size of the file so the room can be saved for the constant email delivery. The main purpose is email delivery and not the delivery of the folders, which is an extra benefit of email.
Google mail and Yahoo mail for example have a limit of 25MB. It clearly warns you that you can not attach files bigger than this size.
